Reading short stories by Alejandra Diaz Ortiz

Reading short stories by Alejandra Diaz Ortiz

with Kubidetik

Of Mexican birth, she now lives in Madrid and has already published her third short  story book, in addition to a novel. In 2009, Trama Editorial published “Cuentos chinos (Chinese Stories)”, with a prologue by Luis Eduardo Aute. In 2012, it was “Pizca de sal’s (Pinch of Salt)” turn, commented on by Luis Alberto de Cuenca, ex-director of the National Library. Finally, in May 2014, she presented “No hay tres sin dos (There Can’t be Three without Two)” with John Hemingway, grandson of the Nobel Prize winner, as sponsor.

During the reading, the author weaves a story based on the three volumes, so that a coherent, yet open story is created, composed of multiple fragments, mainly using humour and irony. What is more, attendee participation is sought in a game: they are also asked to create a short tale based on a proposed topic. The winner receives a pat on the back and a small award.

Regarding her background, after spending time in the film world, working with directors such as Jaime De Armiñán, she threw herself into her country’s music as attendee in tours for Joaquín Sabina and Silvio Rodríguez, in addition to others. Since settling in Madrid, she has collaborated on a regular basis with different publications and communication media.

One might say that she lost her innocence with Arturo Ripstein, that Luis Eduardo Aute confused her with Anjelica Huston, that Joaquín Sabina gave her a song, that Jaime López wrote her an entire  album, that she was a professional laundry woman and door-to-door calendar saleswoman, and that she married a poet who took flight before the last kiss…
